Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dismissed as cheap talk claim by the Minister of Information, Mr Lai Muhammed that the All Progressives Congress, APC, led federal government was delivering on its campaign promises, saying Nigerians cannot be deceived.
Spokesman of the party in Rivers state, Mr Samuel Nwonosike who spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt said the alleged failure of the APC at the federal level would make it easy for the PDP to bounce back to power at the centre in 2019.
He said there was nothing to show that the APC government at the centre was fulfilling its campaign promises, stressing that most federal roads in the country had collapsed with unemployment rate on the rise.
He said with the Supreme Court judgement which resolved the crisis in the PDP, the party was firmly set to clinch power at the centre.
He said , “With what we have seen so far, the 2019 general election will be a walkover against the APC. The PDP will win the election without saying much because Nigerians are aware that the APC has failed us.
“Lai Mohammed said the other day that the Federal Government is fulfilling its promises to Nigerians. I disagree with him because the promise of giving N5,000 to unemployed graduates every month has not been fulfilled.
“Again, the assurance that N1 will exchange for $1 has not come to pass. The power situation has not improved and we saw an APC lawmaker led a protest over poor power supply in Nasarawa State.
“The same Lai Mohammed promised that there would be enough food for Nigerians and that food would be cheap. But today, Nigerians can no longer feed well because the prices of food have gone five times higher than what they used to be,”
He further lauded governor Nyesom Wike for his performance in the state, saying he had had taken governance to an appreciable level.
Meantime, the APC has said Nigerians would decide in 2019 whether to continue the alleged culture of corruption of the PDP or vote the APC to rid the country of corruption.
He said, “No one will embark on trying to dissuade Rivers PDP from dreaming of winning the 2019 elections at both state and federal levels as they often tell themselves.
So they told Nigerians that GEJ as a sitting President could not be voted out but the opposite was the case eventually.
“APC’s success will continue to ramp up as the days and months go by and by 2019 Nigerians will decide whether to continue the diversification of the economy, fight against corruption and building of infrastructure that the APC is tackling head-on or to return to Egypt as characterised by the PDP.”
